What is TexBox?

TexBox is a text telephone system which connects hard of hearing, deaf or speech impaired customers who use textphones (also known as minicoms), to almost anyone in your organisation. One system will eliminate the need for textphones throughout your organisation by utilizing already networked PC's on an internal computer network (LAN or WAN), where the textphone call is routed via the network to a relevant agent’s PC.

As with a voice telephone system, TexBox offers the textphone user direct one to one private communication, with the option to be transferred to any department throughout an organisation.

Why was TexBox developed?

An analysis with various groups took place to review the technology used within organisations to handle textphone calls. Results showed that many textphone users calling organisations were not able to connect directly to a department due to lack of sufficient resources or specific training of agents to handle textphone calls.

Also from the organisations point of view, a centralised system was needed which would then distribute calls where necessary. Using a Java based application accessible from an internet browser was also the preferred method to deploy the "Soft Textphone" to agents within an organisation.

Why does the TexBox use V.18 Modems?

DSPG has over 12 years development and manufacture experience with V.18 modem technology. This technology has been implemented into a number of applications worldwide which require the ability to connect to various models of textphones worldwide which use different communication modes in various countries.

This technology was implemented into the TexBox to allow worldwide connectivity into an organisation. This would especially prove useful for organisations who provide a helpline to their customers even when abroad. This would allow a customer on holiday in Spain for example to use a local textphone to call to an organisation based in the UK.

How long has TexBox been in use?

One of the first systems was installed over 6 years ago. With systems installed at sites such as the BSkyB call centre in Livingston and Camden Council in London, software revisions are constantly being made available to enhance functionality.
